Logstash-Forwarder Integration

Alooma supports the Lumberjack protocol to receive events. Using logstash-forwarder, it's possible to easily send events from backend log files to Alooma.

As a prerequesite, you'll need:

  1. A CA certificate to validate the alooma.com domain.

  2. Your hostname will need to be configured as logstash servers by Alooma support.

To install, follow these steps:

  1. Install Go.

  2. Compile logstash-forwarder.

    git clone git://github.com/elasticsearch/logstash-forwarder.git
    cd logstash-forwarder
    go build -o logstash-forwarder

  3. Log in to your Alooma account.

  4. Add a "Server Logs" input. Make sure to give it a label (name) and to copy the generated token.

  5. Configure the logstash-forwarder, according to the sample configuration below. Make sure to insert the token provided in step 4.

    {
      "network": {
      "servers": [ "inputs.alooma.com:5043" ],
       "timeout": 15
    },
    "files": [
    {
      "paths": [
        "/var/log/messages",
        "/var/log/*.log"
      ],
      "fields": { "token":"<YOUR_TOKEN>" }
      }
    ]
    }
  6. Run it with the following command: logstash-forwarder -config logstash-forwarder.conf

That's it, you're ready to send events to Alooma. Enjoy!
